Douglas County Human Services honored for CarePortal program
The county reported 1,339 family requests connected to community help since 2020, while public records do not show which needs are most common or support a county ranking.
Douglas County Human Services was recognized as CarePortal County of the Year during the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners’ July 14 meeting. Staff reported that the local program has connected families with 1,339 requests since launching in 2020, with an 82% fulfillment rate, more than 3,065 children served and more than $1 million in economic needs met.
CarePortal connects child-serving professionals with churches and community partners that respond to immediate needs. Staff said 38 churches participate locally and that CarePortal announced the national recognition April 21. Douglas County was one of three agencies honored among 1,758 agencies, staff told commissioners.
The award includes $500, which staff said will stock the Juvenile Assessment Center’s resource room for more than 120 clients. The meeting record does not identify the items to be purchased, when the room will be stocked or how the funds will be tracked.
A CarePortal awards page reports that the Douglas County Department of Human Services met 257 needs, served 436 children and generated more than $920,000 in economic impact in 2025. Those figures are a one-year snapshot and should not be added to the county’s cumulative totals since 2020.
