Evacuation zone ordered for forest fire west of Sedalia

Residents within two miles of West Douglas Fire Station 132 were directed to the Sedalia Post Office; officials had not released acreage, containment or threatened-structure figures by Sunday evening.

A two-mile evacuation zone was ordered Sunday, July 26, for a forest fire west of Sedalia, with residents directed to the Sedalia Post Office, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The evacuation area was described as a two-mile radius around West Douglas Fire Station 132 near Highway 67 and Oak Valley. The post also designated the post office as a media-staging location.

The update identified the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Office of Emergency Management, the Helitack Crew, West Douglas Fire and Castle Rock Fire as agencies responding to the fire. It did not provide the fire’s name, acreage, containment percentage or number of threatened structures.

As of 7:17 p.m. MDT Sunday, no later public official update had been located reporting those figures or a change to the evacuation order.
