Douglas County approves $4.56 million Daken Road bridge contract
Douglas County commissioners approved a contract with HEI Civil to replace the Daken Road bridge over West Plum Creek while keeping the existing crossing open during construction.
Douglas County commissioners approved a $4,557,132.36 contract Sept. 8 with Hudick Excavating Inc., doing business as HEI Civil, to replace the Daken Road bridge over West Plum Creek.
The board’s recorded action authorizes a new bridge north of the existing 40-foot crossing, allowing the current bridge to remain open to travelers and emergency-service vehicles during construction. The project also includes improvements to about 1,750 feet of roadway.
The construction contract sets 400 calendar days for the work. Its Notice to Proceed lists Sept. 8, 2026, as the start date and Oct. 13, 2027, as the date the project should be completed and ready for final acceptance.
The work includes construction of the replacement bridge, hot-mix asphalt, erosion control, site restoration and traffic control. The contract does not call for a detour and says the existing crossing is to remain open during the project.
