Castle Rock police report 1,029 offenses through July, up 27% from 2025
Property crimes accounted for nearly all of the reported increase, but the department’s transition to the National Incident-Based Reporting System complicates year-over-year comparisons.
Castle Rock police reported 1,029 offenses through July 2026, up 219 — about 27% — from the same period in 2025. Property crimes accounted for nearly all of the increase, rising to 770 from 570. Society crimes increased to 108 from 90, while person crimes were nearly unchanged at 151 compared with 150.
The figures are included in the Castle Rock Police Department’s August 2026 report. The report uses July data because the department is transitioning to the National Incident-Based Reporting System, or NIBRS, and says person and property crime figures are reported for the previous month during the transition.
Among the categories listed in the report, sex offenses and aggravated assaults each increased by 12 from their 2025 year-to-date totals, to 24 and 21, respectively. Burglary rose from 18 to 21, and robbery increased from zero to three. Motor-vehicle theft declined from 21 to 12, while thefts from motor vehicles fell from 35 to 29.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation explains that the older Summary Reporting System counted only the most serious offense in an incident, while NIBRS records every offense. NIBRS totals can therefore be higher because they capture more detail, not necessarily because more crimes occurred. The department’s report does not specify how much of the year-over-year difference reflects the transition in counting methods.
