El Paso County approves $200,000 grant for Cascade trailhead
The project will add a sidewalk, parking and other amenities for the Ute Pass Regional Trail; county materials list $141,873 in matching funds.
El Paso County commissioners approved $200,000 in grant funding from the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance for a trailhead serving the Ute Pass Regional Trail in Cascade. The Sept. 22 vote was 5-0.
Plans call for a sidewalk from Spring Street through a Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) yard to U.S. 24, along with parking, a kiosk, fencing and gates in CDOT right-of-way. County grant materials list $141,873.38 in matching funds attributed to El Paso County and CDOT, bringing the stated project budget to $341,873.38.
The grant materials scheduled construction from May through September 2026, with completion planned for September. The resolution authorizes the county Parks executive director to sign the agreement; the materials do not establish whether it has been signed or the work completed.
The county’s $200,000 allocation is one project within a separate, broader $2.5 million Peak Exceptionalism award to Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance. The state grant agreement covers a three-year recreation and conservation effort that also includes Ring the Peak Trail work, camping and habitat projects.
