Colorado Springs authorizes $1.4 million Buena Vista land purchase for Homestake project

Colorado Springs City Council authorized spending $1.4 million for about 22.8 acres in Buena Vista identified as necessary for the Homestake Water Project, a joint effort involving Colorado Springs Utilities and Aurora.
Resolution 78-26 covers land at 37433 County Road 371, owned by Regina, Dorothea and William Nelson. It says an independent real-estate appraisal supports the price and authorizes the city’s Real Estate Services Manager to execute the documents needed to complete the acquisition.
The Homestake system carries water through a tunnel and reservoirs to Twin Lakes, then by pipeline to the Otero Pump Station near Buena Vista, Colorado Springs Utilities’ system overview explains. The resolution authorizes the purchase but does not document a transfer of ownership.
