Woodland Park to consider youth advisory council for teens Oct. 1
The proposed council would let students in grades 9–12 advise the city on community issues, with members appointed by the City Council.
Woodland Park City Council is scheduled to consider creating a Youth Advisory Council for students in grades 9–12 at its Oct. 1 meeting, giving teens a formal way to advise the city on community issues, the meeting agenda shows. The proposal includes Resolution 947 and the council’s bylaws.
The proposed bylaws call for four to 15 unpaid members who live in Woodland Park or Teller County. Students from public, private and charter schools, as well as homeschooled students, would be eligible. Members would serve one-year terms, up to a maximum of four terms, and meet monthly at City Hall on the second Wednesday at 4 p.m., the proposed bylaws say.
Students would apply through the City Clerk. City staff, the City Council liaison and the youth council would review applications or interview applicants before referring them to the City Council for appointment. Applications would open as needed to maintain at least four members.
The resolution describes the group’s role as advising and consulting on issues facing the community, according to the proposed resolution.
