Colorado Springs Utilities staff project the utility’s 2027 annual transmission revenue requirement will be about $38.75 million, an increase of roughly $4.47 million, or 13%, from the 2026 projection.

The requirement covers the transmission owner’s costs to build, maintain and operate transmission facilities. Utilities staff describe the figures as part of an annual formula-rate update tied to the utility’s arrangements with the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), in materials prepared for board consideration. The projected requirement is not a direct measure of household electric bills; the presentation does not estimate its customer-bill effect.

The schedule lists Utilities Board presentations on Oct. 19 and 21, followed by a City Council session Nov. 10. Staff plan to submit the final 2027 update to SPP on Dec. 18 and make an informational filing with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Jan. 15, 2027. The rate year is scheduled to run from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2027; the projected amount has not yet been finalized.
