Monument voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to raise the town’s use-tax rate on construction and building materials and construction equipment from 2% to 3.5%. If approved, the increase would take effect Jan. 1, 2027. The Town’s posted ballot language estimates the increase would generate $2,272,500 annually, with additional revenue in later years.

The tax would apply when a building or right-of-way permit is requested for those materials or equipment, if Monument’s sales tax was not collected at purchase. The Town Council voted Aug. 17 to refer the measure to voters, the Town announced.

The ballot language dedicates all revenue to capital projects, including street maintenance and repairs and road-improvement projects.
