El Paso County commissioners approved a contract worth up to $2,594,025.87 with Native Sun Construction to replace the intersection of Woodmoor Drive and Lake Woodmoor Drive near Monument with a roundabout. The county says traffic increases there during nearby schools’ afternoon dismissals and that the project is intended to improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and pedestrians.

The commissioners’ Oct. 20 minutes record approval of a trade contractor agreement and purchase order. The consent calendar that included the contract passed 5-0.

The county’s procurement description describes the roundabout project. A county capital-project listing, last updated Sept. 28, forecast construction to start in late 2026 and continue in 2026-27; it also lists median work. That schedule predates the contract approval and is a forecast, not confirmation that construction has begun.
