Inverness Water and Sanitation District is weighing a roughly $1.5 million project to connect building irrigation systems to its reclaimed-water line. A district representative said the connections could free about 105 acre-feet of potable water, outlining the proposal to the Douglas County Water Commission on Oct. 26.

The project would shift irrigation demand to reclaimed water from the district’s effluent line. Inverness is working toward a long-term goal of supplying 75% of its water from renewable sources. The representative projected that renewable sources would make up just over 60% of the district’s 2026 supply in a very dry year.
