Dakan Road bridge work scheduled to begin Sept. 8; existing crossing planned to stay open
A new 151-foot bridge north of the current West Plum Creek crossing is scheduled to be built over 400 days under a $4.56 million county contract.
Construction of a new Dakan Road bridge over West Plum Creek is scheduled to begin Sept. 8 under a $4,557,132.36 Douglas County contract. The existing bridge is planned to remain open to public and emergency traffic during construction.
The contract with Hudick Excavating Inc., doing business as HEI Civil, calls for a 151-foot bridge north of the current crossing, along with improvements to about 1,750 feet of roadway, paving, erosion control, site restoration and traffic control, according to the construction contract.
The Notice to Proceed allows 400 calendar days for the work, with final acceptance due Oct. 13, 2027. Building the replacement north of the existing bridge is the county’s stated basis for keeping the current crossing open while construction proceeds, the Sept. 8 county manager report says.
The project’s construction-management contract requires daily observation of the work and daily inspections of traffic control for compliance with the approved or applicable traffic-handling plan, according to the Volkert oversight contract.
The available documents do not identify the condition prompting replacement or specify lane restrictions, flagging, construction hours, detours, pedestrian or bicycle accommodations, resident notifications or whether brief closures could be needed during particular activities.
