Colorado Springs authorizes $1.4 million Buena Vista land purchase for water project
The site beside the Otero Pump Station is planned for Homestake pipeline storage, construction staging and temporary lodging for project staff.
Colorado Springs City Council authorized the purchase of about 22.8 acres in Buena Vista for $1.4 million to support the joint Homestake Water Project with Aurora. The council approved Resolution 78-26 on Sept. 22. The resolution identifies the property at 37433 County Road 371 as necessary for the project and says an independent appraisal supports the price.
The site is next to the Otero Pump Station, whose existing grounds are fully built out, Colorado Springs Utilities said in a July 22 report. Part of the Homestake pipeline and a lower access road already cross the property. Planned uses include storing pipe, materials and equipment; a weather-protective storage building; space for construction work; and temporary lodging for new hires and support staff during construction or maintenance.
Utilities’ report put its share of the purchase price at about $750,000, which it said was already included in its budget. Aurora would pay the remainder. The Utilities Board considered the proposed purchase in July, before the council acted. The resolution authorizes the city to complete the purchase but does not establish that the sale has closed.
