Colorado Springs authorizes officials to complete below-market Valley Hi lease
The lease would support First Tee Southern Colorado’s youth golf and education programs. The nonprofit also plans to rebuild the golf course’s pool building.
Colorado Springs City Council found a community benefit in leasing part of the city-owned Valley Hi Golf Course to First Tee Southern Colorado below fair market value and authorized city officials to complete the lease documents. The lease would support the nonprofit’s affordable golf access and youth education programs.
Resolution 84-26 authorizes the city’s real estate manager and mayor to execute documents needed to complete the lease. It identifies the tenant as Life Skills Fore the Youth of Colorado Springs, doing business as First Tee Southern Colorado, and gives Valley Hi’s address as 610 Chelton Road.
The resolution says the golf course’s pool building needs repairs and that First Tee plans to demolish and rebuild it to improve access for its programs. A KRDO report described a proposed facility with golf simulators, putting greens and a multipurpose room.
The council’s community-benefit finding cites First Tee’s plan to pair affordable golf access with educational programming intended to help young participants build character, work ethic and confidence. First Tee Southern Colorado describes its programs as combining golf instruction with lessons in personal growth and life skills.
The resolution does not state the lease’s rent or term.
