El Paso County plans to mail more than 500,000 ballots for the November election, with 44 secure drop boxes and 41 vote centers available for returning a ballot or voting in person, Clerk and Recorder Steve Schleiker told county commissioners at their Sept. 29 work session.

The county planned to mail ballots Oct. 5. Vote centers are scheduled to open in phases, beginning Oct. 19, with more sites opening Oct. 30 and Nov. 2. They will offer replacement ballots, voter registration, in-person voting and accessible voting equipment. Schleiker said the county had hired more than 1,000 bipartisan election judges and filled all positions.

Schleiker recommended mailing ballots by Oct. 26 because postmarks do not count. Ballots must reach the Clerk and Recorder’s Office by 7 p.m. on Election Day. Voters can also return ballots at a drop box or vote center; the county says its secure drop boxes are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Voters can check whether a ballot was received or counted through Colorado’s BallotTrax portal or GoVoteColorado.gov. Check the county’s election information and ballot-return pages for updated locations and hours before heading out.
