Colorado Springs proposes restoring pay for Nov. 25 furlough day

Colorado Springs is proposing to eliminate the scheduled Nov. 25 furlough day for eligible city employees through a $380,700 supplemental budget appropriation, pending City Council approval.
The measure is scheduled for introduction at the council’s Sept. 21 work session. The official Legistar item lists it as Ordinance 26-395 and had no recorded final action or vote history as of Sept. 16.
The draft ordinance would amend the city’s 2026 budget appropriation ordinance. It says the city’s furlough plan required eligible employees to take five unpaid scheduled days in 2026, including the day before Thanksgiving.
The proposal would allocate $330,800 from the General Fund, including $58,000 for Police, $53,300 for the Mayor and Support Services, $43,300 for Public Works, $40,500 for Innovation and Technology and $40,000 for Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. It also would appropriate $11,400 from the Conservation Trust Fund, $32,000 from the Public Safety Sales Tax Fund and $6,500 from the Trails, Open Space and Parks Fund.
The ordinance says the funding would come from 2026 revenue collected above budget. The pay restoration would depend on subsequent council and mayoral action; the scheduled work session is not evidence that the ordinance has been approved.
