Woodland Park council approves Griffith Cabin landmark designation
The unanimous vote approves local landmark status for the cabin, estimated to date to 1899; the designation is separate from the National Register of Historic Places.

Woodland Park City Council voted unanimously Oct. 1 to approve Ordinance 1534, designating the Griffith Cabin at 116 W. Lake Ave. as a local historic landmark, the meeting video shows.
The ordinance cites the cabin’s rustic architecture, historic materials and association with the Griffith family. A city inventory estimates the cabin was built around 1899 and describes it as a family vacation home, the city’s staff report says. The local designation is separate from the National Register of Historic Places; an assessment of eligibility does not itself place a property on the register.
The ordinance takes effect after passage and publication. The city’s landmark criteria say a property should retain enough original or accurately restored material to maintain its historic character. The ordinance does not detail what approvals may be required for future alterations or demolition.
