Castle Rock board to weigh $14,914 grant for Maples window work

Staff recommends the full request, which would use nearly all of the town’s $15,000 historic-restoration grant budget for 2026.

Castle Rock’s Historic Preservation Board is scheduled to consider a $14,914.11 grant for window work at The Maples during a public hearing Nov. 4. Town staff recommends the full request, nearly all of the town’s $15,000 historic-restoration grant budget for 2026. The meeting agenda lists the hearing, which was continued from October, and the staff report recommends approving the request.

The proposed work would replace later-installed vinyl windows with Pella Reserve windows in the existing openings and restore four original wood windows in the enclosed rear porch. The application also includes work on the original rear door and porch details. The town has separately approved the vinyl-window replacement as a minor alteration; that approval does not award grant money. The town’s alteration memo says the replacement will retain the existing openings and window pattern.

The requested grant is half of a $29,828.22 estimate for 12 replacement windows. A vendor quote lists those windows and their itemized prices but does not separately price the porch-window and door restoration work. Staff says final grant-eligible costs will be checked against invoices and project documentation.

No grants have yet been approved from the town’s 2026 historic-restoration budget, the staff report says. If the board approves the full request, $85.89 would remain. Town Council approved The Maples’ local landmark designation Oct. 6, and the designation is scheduled to take effect Nov. 5 after the referendum period. Any grant award is contingent on the designation being recorded.
